Corona Virus has struck a huge hole in this year’s event plans but it is temporary, and will go away at some stage.  We have to adapt to this, so here are some simple tips to help you.

Carry on training for your event, if it is now at a later date, use that extra time to be in even better shape and even more prepared for it, and do the best you can with what you have!

SWIMMING – With swimming pools currently closed the only option may be open water, although still rather chilly. You can use indoor rowing and ski machines if you have them, as well as resistance training to maintain upper body strength and fitness. Try this website for some ideas

CYCLING – For your allowed daily exercise, you can cycle on the roads, which are much quieter right now. Consider a stationary trainer if getting out on a bike is difficult for you.  In addition to this, exercise bikes, steps and stairs (step ups), resistance training like squats and calf raises are good exercises to strengthen key cycling muscles.

RUNNING – Again, you can use your allowed daily outdoor exercise to go out and run, as long as of course, you are practicing good social distancing. Indoors, if you're lucky, you may have a treadmill, otherwise running on the spot and skipping are both great exercise for running.

GENERAL STRENGTH & FITNESS – General gym and resistance work with either free weights, machine, your own bodyweight or other fitness accessories you might have at home all work well, be adaptive and use your imagination.

We are working with Craven Complete Fitness & Rehab again this year offering more pre-race masterclasses, after the success of trials last year and they will be offering a new event massage service to all competitors. They are happy to help if you need further assistance with adapting a programme or building a plan. Please feel free to contact them for more information via and for a no obligation quote (realistic & reasonable rates for personal training plans).
